Greenland Group started its business in trading and contracting by forming an ownership company named Green Bengal Establishment in 1983. The initial trading business was limited to exporting traditional and non-traditional goods specially fish and vegetable to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Subsequently this trading company was named as Greenland Trading and Contracting which continued trading in traditional and non-traditional items with foreign countries. Later the Group focused on the manpower sector and started exploring the job market of the Middle East for skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers and labourers particularly in KSA and UAE. To handle this new area of business Greenland Overseas came up in 1988 with a far reaching vision and goal of creating job opportunity for surplus manpower of Bangladesh in global job market.
